» Gateway Of India
The Gateway Of India at Apollo Bunder the most popular landmark of Mumbai.
A solid structure consisting of 8 open door ways. It was designed to
commemorate the visit of King George and Queen Mary for the Delhi Durbar in
1911. It holds a great historical significance.
» Marine Drive
Also known as Queen s Necklace, it runs along the shore line of Arabian Sea
from Nariman Point to Malabar Hills. A stroll down the Marine Drive is
possibly the best way out to discover the vast Mumbai.
» Juhu Beach
An extremely lively and colourful place that attracts thousands of visitors
throughout the year. It remains crowded on weekends. It is studded with many
5 star hotels offering the customers a splenderous coastal view.
» Haji Ali's Mosque
Located in between The Arabian Sea, it's a white coloured mosque containing
the tomb of saint Haji Ali.
» Prince Of Whales Museum
Considered to be one of the best museum in the country, it's made in
mid-Victorian Gothic style. Its surrounded by beautiful gardens and contains
a fine collection of Chinese jade pieces and old paintings.
» Elephanta Caves
Elephanta caves are located 10 kms away from north east of Apollo Bunder.
These famous caves are the grand base of Lord Shiva dating back to 5th
century CE. The cave complex is a collection of shrines, courtyards, inner
cells, grand halls and portico's.
» Kanheri Caves
The splendid caves are actually the Buddhist caves, where monks practised
their austerities around 1st century AD. Located 10 kms away from Borivali
railway station, in the midst Mumbai National Park, these caves are a fine
example of Buddhist artistry.
» Hanging Gardens
Also known as Ferozeshah Mehta gardens, these are situated at the top of
Malabir Hills, opposite to the Kamala Nehru Park. They are famous for their
spectacular sunset views over the Arabian Sea. Hanging gardens are built
over three reservoirs, storing 30 million gallons of water for cleaning
purpose.
» Towers of Silence
A holy place of Parsi, where they offer last rites to the dead. Here, the
vultures come to eat the remaining of the dead. The greenery and calmness of
this place help to the funeral proceedings taking place here. Non -Parsis
are not allowed to see the religious ceremony.
» Dhobi Garh
This is a washing station which comprises of thousands of bare-chested men,
standing ankle-deep in water, while scrubbing and thrashing the garments on
the stone labs and then washing them in the water tank. It is an astonishing
and interesting place to watch for.
Mani-Bhawan
» Located on the shady Laburnum road, Mani
Bhavan is considered to be an old residence of Mahatma Gandhi. He used to
stay at house no 19, a two storeyed building, which now houses a research
library, a film and some memories of Gandhi ji like Charkha or the spinning
wheel.
