Trekking in Leh & Ladakh 13N 14D

Day 01 : New Delhi - Leh by air
Jallianwala BaghEarly this morning after a quick cup of tea/coffee you will be taken to the airport for your flight to Leh. This one-hour flight from the Indian capital to Ladakh’s capital will be something that you might remember for the rest of your life. Assistance on arrival and transferred to your hotel. There will be no activity on your first day of arrival as it is recommend for tourists to relax and undergo minimal exertion to enable them to get acclimatized to rarefied oxygen level in this high-altitude region ensconced in the high Himalayan plateau. Overnight at the hotel in Leh.

Day 02 : Leh - Introductory tour
Morning a guided tour through the ancient bazaar and alleys of Leh town. In the afternoon visit to Sankar Monastery and will wrap up the day’s program with a visit to Shanti Stupa or Peace Pagoda built on a hill-lock. Your visit to the pagoda will time in such a way that you will enjoy a spectacular and panoramic view of the sun-drenched Indus Valley before the sunset. Overnight at the hotel in Leh.

Day 03 : Tour of Hemis, Thiksey and Shey monastery
After a leisurely breakfast, drive to visit Hemis Monastery situated 45 kilometers west of Leh, after passing through the Chortens and Mani walls to enter the complex through the East Gate. Hemis is the largest and the wealthiest monastery in Ladakh. From Hemis, you are driven back taking the same route to visit Thiksey Monastery, located on a hill-lock with formidable views of the Indus valley. Thiksey is especially noteworthy for its gigantic seated statue of the Maitreya and is also known for its (Dukhang) assembly hall which houses hundreds of rectangular prayer books, stacked between wooden covers and bound in silk. After that we continue to drive through series of chortens to visit Shey Palace the former summer palace of the King of Ladakh. Overnight at the hotel in Leh
Day 04 : Trek Spituk-Zingchan Village (3600mtrs); Average walking time 5-6 hrs
Early morning, transfer to the trekking point at Spituk, its advisable to start the trek early, as it gets hot by midday. After 6/7 kilometers the Indus enters into the tight gorge as its confluence with the Zingchan River. Follow the trail up the Zingchan valley, to reach the main Zingchan village consists of few settlements. Camp at Zingchan. Overnight in Camps.

Day 05 : Trek Zingchan –- Yurutse (4150 meters) via Rumbak village; Average walking time 4 to 5 hours
Today early in the morning drive to Zingchan, upon arrival start your trek following the Zingchan stream passing through small hut, entering the Hemis National Park, the trail then leads through narrow gorge and then the valley widens and reach Rumbak village. Then the trail continues along the stream crossing the bridge and arriving Yurutse village. Establish our campsite and then rest of the day is spent exploring the surrounding village. Overnight in tented camp at Yurutse.

Day 06 : Trek Yurutse - Skiu village (4060 meters) via Ganda La pass (4940 meters); Average walking time 4 to 5 hours
Start the day with a steady climb for an hour to the Ganda-la (4920mtrs) from the top catch a spectacular view of the south to the Zanskar range. After decent from the pass, reach at Shingo village (4150mtrs), below Shingo the trail enters a narrow gorge, lined with willow trees and small Chortens (Stupas) mark the confluence with Markha valley. Before arrive Skiu, need to wade across small streams to get to our campsite on green pastures, located along the Markha River. Overnight in tented camp at Skiu Village

Day 07 : Trek Skiu - Markha Village (3710mtrs); Average walking time 7 to 8 hours
ManaliToday start early as our trail follows the Markha river to the South east and after a pleasant trek passing Sara Village crossing the bridge to reach Chaluk Village with not many houses, then crossing the river and walking along the left bank, on crossing the river reach Markha Village, camp before entering the main village along Markha river will spate in the afternoon as its very difficult to cross, you will have to defer this until next morning to take advantage of the low water level. Willow trees surround the beautiful campsite. Overnight in tented camp at Markha village.

Day 08 : Trek Markha to Hankar Village (3900mtrs); Average walking time 3-4hours
We start early in order to take the advantage of the calm river walking for 20-25 minutes we reach the Markha river and assisted by our team to cross to reach the main Markha village, the largest village in the Markha valley. The Markha monastery can be seen perched on a cliff a little distance from the river. We can visit the monastery; which is open during the morning hours. After another 2 1/2 hours trek reach Hankar Village, which contains ruins of an old fort and a small monastery. After lunch visit the Hankar monastery and the old ruins of the fort. Overnight in tented Camp at Hankar village.

Day 09 : Trek Hankar - Tchangungtse (4200 meters)-Nimaling (4700 meters); Average Walking time 4 to 5 hours
We start with a steep ascent to reach Tchangungtse taking approximately 1 hour the top covered with the green pastures. From the top we get a spectacular view of Zanskar Ranges and Kang Yaze peak (6400 meters). After a short halt, we descend on the other side on a trail that turns east and reaches the plateau of Nimaling. Which is perhaps the greenest of our campsites. Yaks, Sheep’s & Cattle from the Markha Villages use the plains of Nimaling as the summer grazing grounds. Overnight in tented camp at Nimaling.

Day 10 : Full day in Nimaling
Today spend the entire day at Nimaling exploring the surrounding region and to discover the small stone hut known as Pollu in local language and also before set on to cross the challenging Kongmaru La pass (5200 meters). Overnight at the tented camp in Nimaling.

Day 11 : Trek Nimaling - Shang Sumdo (3560 meters) via Kongmaru la (5200mtrs) Average walking time 6 to 7 hours.
Early this morning, start with a steep ascent up towards Kongmaru-la pass. The path gets steeper as you near the pass. Once you set your foot on the ridge on top you are rewarded with grand views of the Indus to its northeast and Zanskar Ranges to its south. The descent from the pass is equally steep to Chogdo Village (approx 2 hrs), which is situated at the height of (3810mtrs) consisting of 6-7 houses. From Chogdo descent eases off as you walk for a couple of hours to reach Shang Sumdo, where you will be picked up for an onward drive to Leh. Overnight at the hotel in Leh.

Day 12 : Trek Sumdo-Hemis (3840mtrs) (Average walking time 3-4 hrs)
After early breakfast, you take the road junction leading to the Shang Village a 15-20 minutes walk, Shang is a larger village consisting of 10-15 houses with a newly founded monastery, after that you walk back to the campsite to continue the last day of trek to Hemis. Begin by walking along the left bank of the Shang river a gradual descent until you meet the Manali-Leh road, then you pass along small brick houses and a series of chortens for the final climb (1 1/2 hours) to reach Hemis. Upon arriving Hemis, walk up to visit the Hemis monastery situated in a gorge, after that, embark into your car, driving us back to Leh. Check-into the hotel. Overnight at the hotel.
